Printmaking is a diverse and multifunctional medium that is an invaluable tool for creating illustrations. This introductory course explores different printmaking processes and how they can be used in a professional illustration practice.
Printmaking for Illustrators will focus on modern processes used by illustrators today which can be found readily in modern commercial works: letterpress polymer plate printing, linoleum block printing, and risograph printing.
This course will be broken into three process-specific units and finish with a final project. Most classes will be held at BAI, with one printing session per unit held at PaperBase’s studio classroom in Midtown/Mount Vernon. The last four weeks will be devoted to a final project of the student’s choosing, using one or more of these processes, and will end in a class print swap.
